My Top Albums of 2023 *literally the hardest list i made*
Well... The first I heard of her was because of the rumored love triangle with Olivia 😂. There might be a bit of truth about that beeing a PR stunt. I just heard Espresso two weeks ago, and I can't say it impressed me. I heard it and just thought "meh". I think it's pretty generic tbh. I heard it a couple of times since then, but it always leaves my mind instantly 🤷🏼♀️. For me, that song doesn't have anything memorable about it. Even the lyrics... Yeah they have a few "uncommon" rhymes in it, but I don't think they are really that impressive. Though to be fair, song lyrics don't always have to be "clever" or "artistically valuable" for me to enjoy them. They just have to be relatable for me. But, yeah... I do think she is one of the more talented emerging stars right now, her music just isn't for me. But it also doesn't have to be. I was just very curious about her, because she kept popping off in my feeds constantly recently.
I think she can win a Grammy for Best New Artist.
It's a 7/10 for me for now And yes Bridge & outro of June gloom is everything to me! Loved ur review <3
I'm deeply moved by your video! »» "Triumph emerges from relentless effort."
it was such a positive surprise to meee, I was expecting it to be her worst and I ended up liking every single song. Meanwhile MEGAN which I was expecting to love ended up disappointing.
i really love how open minded you're to music, when i heard i luv it, i didn't really have much expectations from c,xoxo, i like the album more than i thought i would tho, june gloom is the standout for me on the record...also justice for romance, it's my favourite album from her
I think I’ve listened to so much pop as long as an artist actually tries, I’ll always try to give them the benefit of the doubt! But yeah, this record was stronger than I thought. Also omg Romance has its shooters 😭
@@EljohnMacaranas ofc 😭 idk why romance is getting hated, she's gorgeous uhmmm living proof, bad kind of butterflies, my oh my, dream of you (standout), used to this, and the tear jerker first man, she gave what needed to be given....exactly
honestly, not something i’d come back to, but i didn’t really hate it. the sound was pretty unique track to track while still being able to maintain a consistent feel. its just really under developed + the interludes just felt kind of unnecessary.
I think if the interludes were swapped or maybe fleshed out, it’d make the record a bit stronger bc under 40 mins was too short
I actually really like this album !
It’s a really solid record!
NFR is my album it literally cmeout on my birthday
I loved her on Girl Meets World, but didn't pay any attention to her music (my attitude then: All the Disney girls have record deals, so why should I pay attention to this one?) But then I heard "Why" and thought "This is Really GOOD!" Since then, I've been a devoted fan, wondering with every release why she wasn't a bigger star. Look through all the Sabrina videos and reactions over the past 5+ years and you'll find the comments filled with "she's so underrated," "why is she so slept on," "deserves so much more attention" etc. The cruelest luck was when she took over the lead role in Broadway's 'Mean Girls,' but only got to do 2 performances before Covid shut down all the theaters for a year. That's why it's so satisfying to see her explode the way she has this year. She deserves it, she earned it, an 'overnight sensation' that actually took ten years, and it makes us all feel justified.
I think the barbie song kept being brought up for a while, she should’ve waited more to drop the first single
I saw her label head mention this and agreed Dance the Night was still doing well when Houdini dropped
Only review I trust tbh
Omg thank u (and tbh i do genuinely try to give everything i listen to a fighting chance, like u’d need to turn in the worst shit ever for me to go lower than a 6)
I want a remix of Apple with MARINA
I need that and Carly and Talk Talk
I absolutely love this album. It’s so unique, sometimes haunting, and with the bangers, ballads, and the songs are not like anything else out there right now. June Gloom & B.O.A.T. are my favorites. Vulnerability in the writing is so moving. Can’t wait for the deluxe (I wrote this before I realized we have the same fave tracks) J,XOXO
The taste exhibited! The deluxe needs to drop when it makes most sense for her (though I’d love it sooner than later)! E, XOXO
It's a cringy, awkward, hot mess of an album, yet somehow cool and fresh and weird?! I think that 8/10 is quite generous of you king,I would prob give it a 6.5, 7 if I feel generous, but I can see the appeal and there's quite a few bops all through out. The three major problems for me,1 what u said about the amount of interludes and how they don't flow throughout, 2 the production tries to be explosive and experimental but I can feel the producers toning the beat down for massive appeal, and 3 Drake (he really takes a dump an the album for me). There's magic in this album that I think will work better for me during autumn and on more gloomy days. Favorite tracks chanel No.5, He knows, Dade county dreaming, Dream-girls and June Gloom. Also, I haven't seen anyone talk about it and I didn't see anything on the credits, but June Gloom has to be an interpolation or a sample or something of Love by Lana, right? I'm not going crazy, right?!😂
Wait I hear the Lana interpolation a little bit! I genuinely was kinder mainly because of the Miami setting and the swings she took, like she hit most of them maybe not out of the park but at least did hit some marks well.
I don’t actually view her as the Disney girl. She was a RUclipsr before she got on Disney. That was where I first saw her. Does anyone remember that time?
Wow, you were early-early!
@@EljohnMacaranas Definitely! I remember when I first heard “Can’t Blame a Girl for Trying” and the radio had said “Sabrina Carpenter” I was like…no…isn’t that the name of that RUclips girl I used to watch with my little sister. So, I googled it and saw it was her and I was like “omg, she made it!” lol It’s so nice to see how much her career has taken off since those humble days.
a little dissapointed that there wasnt many more electronic-esque tracks on the album but still enjoyed it more than i thought i would. My favourite is 'pretty when i cry' and think it needs to be pushed as a single
pretty when i cry is like a perf summer single but agreed, i wish there was more upbeat electronic stuff, she does well there!
Just got listening to it so far don’t want to give a full explanation bc I’m a slow burner/grower type when it comes to albums, EPs, mixtapes etc but so far I do think there was some potential to the album I like the Miami influenced sound, there’s a hint of world building and introspection in its songwriting but it isn’t fully fleshed out and developed, the concept for it had potential but again not fully developed or flushed out. Someone made a point that camile should’ve made this year a droplet era and then fully release the album next year, Rihanna did this in 2014-2015 before dropping anti and Rosalia did this 2020-2021 before dropping mototami, should’ve done some collabs/features and release at least 2-3 singles before rolling out the album once she fully developed her ideas for it. I do love dream-girls that’s my jam, I do like twenty somethings, and he knows but overall hit and miss with the album so far
I feel like table setting would have worked pretty well but in a streaming kind of world… I’m guessing her label wanted an album out and a tour 😭
It’s kinda ironic that Lana del Rey loves I luv it
She loves a good camp moment
For real
I gave it a spin and enjoyed it. You had it right that it’s more like motomami than Charli. I like the visuals and the I luv it video
Motomami’s impact is seen. Like again I barely see the Charli comparisons beyond I LUV IT and some of the superficial clips
I actually liked Romance quite a lot, how she fleshed our all the very different aspects of being in love, that was awesome, a full picture. Very curious about this new one, loved Chanel No 5, and now I will listen to the rest! Thanks, as always!
Thanks for tuning in! Hope you enjoy the record 💙
What happened to crying in the club
I really didn’t hate it I thought the last four tracks were actually pretty solid even twentysomethin, twitter made think it was just the worst
The last few tracks are the record I sorta wish it was the whole time tbh
it’s a good album
It’s solid!
I listened to it I was only feeling June gloom first time through
June Gloom definitely was my fave but def a grower record
This album hits the way her other album didnt! The production is excellent and her songwriting shines thru
Much stronger than the first one
@@EljohnMacaranas i wrote this before i got halfway into the vid so im stoked we have the same opinion ❤️
Review to Cupcakke's new album "Dauntless Manifesto" when?
The album is amazing I wish people would stop being haters and just listen to music for what it is.
It’s stan twitter wanting to score quick likes 😭
@@EljohnMacaranas it's sad. Yes the artists careers get tainted album sales drop and they flop but the real losers are the people missing out on great music just cuz they're trend hoppers.
I really love this album, one of my very favorites this year next to TTPD. As both Lana and Taylor fan, I didn't catch any connection with Lana's songs.
June Gloom is the closest to Lana she has on this record and even then still p far
june gloom is so good
One of my fave closers of the year 💙
I really enjoyed this. Not the kind of music I like, but it was pretty cool
I like how different it was!
The ballads I agree are probably the best parts
B.O.A.T. and June Gloom are career bests
I LUV IT was an oddball single choice like it’s a good shock moment but it also felt a bit forced
I feel like Chanel no 5 or some other song would have been better than He Knows which was cute but felt more like an album cut
I’m never forgetting that dramatic AF 5H vmas thing where they pulled her double off stage like 😭😭😭
What was that for?! But also the gasp I had seeing it live
Hahaha, I remember that shots were fired 🤣
I’m never forgetting that dramatic AF 5H vmas thing where they pulled her double off stage like 😭😭😭
😭😭😭
I weirdly liked this more than I expected 😭
I think open mind is needed or just being out of the loop
I did not like c, xoxo at all but i'm happy some people enjoy it
I think it’s def not for everyone (a change for an artist who always seem to have wanted mass appeal)
Honesty the interludes are better than all the songs😭 (PINK XOXO 🔛🔝) Tho Pretty when I cry is great!
Well that’s just Pinkpantheress’ impact tbh
WAIT FR?@@EljohnMacaranas I hope they'll collab😭 ngl
I feel so bad that artpop didn't get the success it deserved
It got a legacy the other albums that dropped that year never got 🫢
the guardian's article is very very mean for the record. please do mention about it
I would have but I never finished reading it. Cannot believe they published that.
@@EljohnMacaranas thank you. I really loved thge album but was quiet disheartened by the article and Slant's review. I am gonna say something Messed up but its true, If this of thingexposing past mistakes would have happened to talyor , selena or any A-list celeb , I can for legit say that people would have almost not even reacted 10% similar to what they had with camila just because she is quirky, raw and grounded and not have a controlled bunch of people hanging out with her. ig both the suspect and victim of the case have clearly moved on and rn, both have nothing but love for each other but the people are so insane like there is a need to learn " ho to let somethings go as the time passes" believe it wouldnt have been the same for any other A- list6er
i will listen to it.... in few months
Jump on it! It’s summer!
@@EljohnMacaranas ok will listen to it tomorrow
i did not go into this album with an open mind, but i actually thought it was pretty good. although it does seem fundamentally similar to brat, i do like it and i plan on coming back to it.
It’s sorta in spirit but pretty distinct in its own melancholic way.
I feel as someone who is born and raised in Miami, its a Miami record. I truly do see it as a love letter to Miami but also ensuring her old feeling of ballads which shes really good with. I hate the amount of interludes though i am a sucker for interludes. The different genre in this album i do enjoy and love thee ballads. I just truly hate how short it is and how short the songs are. But all in all, I do love the album and it is pretty fun album for the summer. It could have been better but I'm enjoying it
The ballads are amazing! Probably her real wheelhouse and always has been (Never Be the Same, Consequences, etc.) like the Miami flavor is also really what gives the record life. I agree it’s way too short and the interludes are kinda a mess.
@@EljohnMacaranas I can forsure say Dade county dreaming, june gloom, B.O.A.T and I luv it are on my playlist for summer. I'll forever love her Romance Era so much, It deserved so much better
@@allangochin3760yes
Yes I agree with everything as someone who was born and raised in Miami fl. I’ll listen to it
this feels like a steppingstone for her, it wasn’t my favorite, but there’s definitely some stand outs. One thing for sure I’m excited to see where she goes w this persona
I feel like she needed a step forward for sure and even if it’s not all the way forward, it’s something better than being stagnant. Would love a deluxe!
The princess of "Bubbling Under" is finally on top of the world.
YES! 👏🏼
I personally am not a fan of camilla's voice, but I'm curious if she's gonna help charli xcx and addison rae make hyperpop mainstream. It sounds kinda chaotic and brash for me, imo. Despite the lackluster revies, camilla is definitely here to stay. She has a fanbase, and ive seen lots of promotion.
I think I Luv It charting was more or less a sign there’s interest in brash pseudo hyperpop being mainstream but the respective backlash and perception also gives it pause. Charli’s Brat charting (at least albums wise) def alludes there’s a potential moment.
Funny how the Charli xcxrs really thought this album was gonna be hyper pop 🤣🤣 anywaysssss I knew I was right & I LOVE this album 😘 C, XOXO>>>>>
It was never gonna be all the way hyperpop, the label would never invest. I still vastly prefer Brat but C, XOXO was p solid.
@@EljohnMacaranasyet y’all thought otherwise a couple months ago lmfao comparisons are not necessary since they aren’t similar albums AT ALLLLLL! C, XOXO every single time for me tho ✌🏽
I have nothing against her but i just cant stand her voice. Just my opinion no hate
Tbh I do get that. I had that issue with Halsey until she went rock that one album 💀
def think the tracklist needed to be rearranged. it could've gone like this (minus interludes.) 1. i luv it 2. he knows 3. dade country dreaming - interlude 4. chanel number 5 5. twentysomething - interlude 6. hot uptown 7. dreamgirls 8. pretty when i cry - interlude 9. june gloom - could add b.o.a.t to the final section or the ballad section. add a few more tracks to round it out and make it more fuller. :)
I was thinking putting 305tilidie at the beginning and using it as an intro rather than an interlude!
305tilidie def feels like an earlier interlude tbh! But I love the track listing and cutting Uuugly which I did bc that’s just a Drake song 💀
This album was so good
I LUV’d IT
